The Career of R.Crapman.

At the start of the 2006 season with Durham, I had a formidable team with stars such as M.Bulbeck, M.Hoggard, K.Dean, M.Vaughan, I.Mohammad, some of the better original Durham team including S.Harmison, P.Collingwood and A.Pratt. Bulbeck was my only allrounder, and I needed more strength in depth, so I looked at the youth players coming through. There was one allrounder, Robert Crapman. I looked at his stats, they were good. Batting: 34.9 Bowling: 26.2. He was a leg spinner as well. I only had one spinner, D.Mattocks, who was an off spinner who was playing for England and had a First Class bowling average of 15 in four seasons. So as Crapman was an allrounder and a leg spinner, I decided to give him a try.
I was near the end of the season, and 43 points ahead of Yorkshire in the County Championship Division 1, when Bulbeck got injured. He was out for six weeks with a broken arm, so I decided to try Crapman for the first time. My next match was against Middlesex, who were languishing at the bottom of the table.
The conditions were good for a spinner, sunny day with average turn. I decided to bat first. My openers Ramprakash and Vaughan made ony 36 before both were back in the pavilion. Mohammad and my overseas player Younis Kahn made a good partnership before Mohammad fell and Collingwood made 27. The score was 194-3 when Crapman came in. He was caught behind for 2 off 8 balls. At the end of the innings, I made 375 all out, a good score considering my start.
I started well taking 4 wickets for 107 runs. Then on  came Crapman. He bowled 19 overs for 109 and 1 wicket before they were bowled out thanks to the work of Dean and Mattocks. They made 306 all out.
In his second innings, he was out for a golden duck. He didn't bowl much better, 10 overs 78 for no wickets. I still managed to win the game thanks mostly to Younis Kahn and Derek Mattcoks.
There were 3 games left, Crapman played in all of them scoring 21, 3, 8, 1, 0, DNB, I only bowled him in the first of the three matches, his figures were: 1 for 49 off 8 overs and 0 for 20 from 2 overs.
At the end of the season, I terminated his contract. How ironic, his performances were the same as part of his name.
